Car Insurance Savings Are Within Reach

If you’re paying too much for car insurance it can seem like saving money in this area is impossible. But fear not – finding affordable car insurance is easier than you think. Here are some tips to get you on the road to savings:

Shape up your credit. Think your credit report has nothing to do with your auto insurance? Thank again! Almost every insurance company looks at your credit report and uses it as a way to judge your risk. If you have shown you can responsibly handle debt, insurers think that you are safer behind the wheel. Likewise, a pockmarked credit report can often be an indication of a less safe driver. So take the time to clean up your credit report as much as possible before shopping around for new car insurance.

Buy in bulk. If you have a renter’s or homeowner’s policy, try checking with your existing insurer for rates on your car. Many insurance companies will give you a substantial price break if you bundle all your insurance with them.

Increase your deductible. If you’re comfortable with more money coming out of your pocket in the event of an accident, consider increasing the deductible level on your policy. While you may have to pay more if you get into a wreck, the money saved from your premium could more than make up for it.

Ask for discounts. When shopping for a new policy be sure to ask your agent about any discounts that may be coming to you. If you have a safe driving record or don\’t put many miles on your car each year you could save a substantial amount. Likewise if you are in certain professions such as accounting or teaching you may qualify for a discount.

Following these simple tips could save you hundreds of dollars on your annual car insurance policy.
