First
Obtain a copy of your report from each of the three reporting agencies. By federal law you are entitled to one free copy of your report per agency, per year. By reviewing what is on your report, you can determine what you need to do to create a credit repair plan. Review your credit report thoroughly. If there are any incorrect items or major discrepancies, contact the reporting agency immediately to have it fixed.

Second
The next step to credit repair is to pay your bills on time every month. As you begin to build up a positive payment history, your score will begin to improve.

Third
Determine if you have any delinquent accounts, tax liens, judgments, or other pieces of past debt. Contact the creditors and lenders to create a payment plan or agree upon a settlement amount and pay them off. By getting a few of these old items take care of, you are well on your way to restoring your credit.

The final step to restoring your credit is to keep your debt to a minimum. Never exceed more than 30% of a credit card’s maximum limit, as anything higher can signal a financial dependency on credit and lower your score.

The biggest thing to remember about credit repair is that it takes time. Just like it took time to get into a credit crisis, it will take time to restore it. Now that you are empowered with new information, go out there and take action.
