Dispute Your Credit – How Do I Dispute My Credit
It’s unbelievable that sometimes it is necessary to correct errors being reported on your credit file. But, have you ever wondered exactly how to dispute your credit?
First
The first step to dispute your credit is to know what exactly is on your report file. Be sure to contact all three reporting bureaus to obtain a full perspective of the health of your file.
Second
Review the reports for any inaccurate or incorrect information.
Third
Then, compose a credit repair letter to send to each of the bureaus. By law, reporting bureaus have to investigate any errors that are reported to them. This investigation usually requires you to provide supporting documentation with your initial credit repair letter.
Four
Another way you can begin your disputes is to have a positive change on your score. You accomplish this by asking the reporting bureaus to add accounts that have not been reported. This is especially important if you have ever been denied credit for lack of positive accounts. Many retail stores and gas station cards are not reported to the agencies. Thus, if you have a positive history with one of these accounts that is not showing up on your report, you can ask that it be added. Most bureaus will charge a fee for the addition, but if accepted it can add a positive aspect onto your credit report file.
Do not be afraid to dispute your file. In most cases, the worst the bureau can do is find their initial reporting is correct and leave it as is. And at best, they agree with your corrections and your credit report sees a positive change. But remember this process takes time and patience.
