First things first, this may seem so simple yet many people do not have it on hand at the scene of an accident- a note pad and a working pen! Do you know how many times people who cause an accident avoid been caught is by speeding off, without the other person having time to take down their details? It is important that you have a pen and paper in a place which is easy to reach such as the cubby hole, so that you can take down the persons details such as; name, surname, address, phone number, email address and most importantly car registration number. If there is an eye witness, then you need to jot down their information as well, because you might need them to testify on your behalf.

If you have a digital handy or even the camera on your mobile phone, use it! Take pictures of the damage on both cars, as well as the track marks on the street and if any other objects have been damaged such as; walls, street lamps or telephone poles.
