There are a number of ways to save on the total cost of owning your car. You can potentially save as much with hi-octane fuel as you do with cheap car insurance each year. Compare fuel efficiency in the same way you compare car insurance quotes. Get value for your money everywhere.

Many people don’t even try hi-octane fuel. They see the price at the fuel pump, and they dismiss it as being expensive. We are all looking to save money with our car, whether that be from reduced car insurance, to the amount of fuel it costs us every month. This article looks at the advantages of hi-octane fuel and other options.

• Other than Fuel. Apart from fuel A big part of engine maintenance is making sure you put the best things into it. This does not just mean fuel. You should consider the condition of your air filter, and the quality of oil you are using. The air filter is extremely important, considering that your car runs on fuel and air. A clean air filter can mean a huge increase in your fuel economy. Better oils will mean your engine runs smoother, therefore, resulting in better economy. Good and new spark plugs will mean your engine fires better, and are also very crucial to getting the most economy out of your engine.

• Hi-Octane and Your Engine Explanation. Lower octane fuel can cause problems with newer engines, as there will be what is called ‘knocking’. A modern computerized engine will adjust itself to stop this ‘knocking’. What hi-octane fuel does, is burn a lot better. That means you get more bang for your dollar, almost literally. The resulting better burn will mean that your engine uses less fuel. Obviously resulting in better economy. Using lower octane fuel will mean you have knocking in your engine, that your engine will compensate for, and you will get greatly reduced economy. Using a higher octane than recommended cannot harm your engine, except for in the rarest of cases, where the car is very old and the engine was in very poor condition in the first place.

• Older Engines. If you are using an older car and engine, you could start to fill your car up with half ordinary fuel, and half hi-contane for a few times, and allow your engine to get used to it. Yes, engines will get used to something. Even though they are man-made, they are still made of metal, that flexes and changes.

• Cleaning Agents. The enemy of fuel economy is junk in your fuel system and fuel lines. Hi-octane fuel will keep your fuel system and your engine cleaner – another immediate benefit being you will get more fuel economy. It is worth adding a fuel cleaner regularly to your new car. You should be careful with your older engine, as it may clean the inside of the engine so much, your engine starts to have problems – use in moderation.

• Choose Your Gas Station. Have you ever noticed that your car seems to run better on fuel from one gas station, than it does another? Their fuel tanks spend many years underground. The newer gas stations will have newer fuel tanks, and obviously they will be cleaner. Buying your fuel from new gas stations is highly recommended. You will notice the difference now this issue has been highlighted to you.

Approach your car use sensibly. You can greatly reduce costs. If you get multiple car insurance quotes, compare costs, drive better, maintain your car, and also by using better fuel, you will save an incredible amount.
