Is a Career in Life Coaching Right for You?
“I challenge you to make your life a masterpiece. I challenge you to join the ranks of those people, who live what they teach, who walk their talk.” – Tony Robbins
In my younger years I hit a crossroad in my life when I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. I was a few years out of college and I was working in a 9 to 5 job that I didn’t really enjoy and didn’t pay much at all. I was frustrated, depressed and confused about what I could do next. Do I stay? Do I quit? If I quit, what kind of job will I apply for? I definitely wasn’t happy and I realized I didn’t even know what it would take to make me happy.
Man, I could have really used a life coach then but I didn’t even know they existed!
Life coaches are people who you turn to when you need help. They’re not therapists who can prescribe drugs and they’re not business managers who’ll advice you about stock trades. Instead, they’re there to help you understand what you need right now. They’re there to motivate you towards success. They’re there to get you organized and ready to take on life’s challenges. Tall order, huh? Do you think that sounds like something you can do? Is that something you want to do?
Life coaches offer guidance in a myriad of situations. Coaches guide people through career decisions by helping them create a great CV or resume. Coaches can help housewives back into careers after years of being a stay at home mom. Coaches can even help you organize your closets. This organization is just more than cleaning up one’s house; it also leads to cleaning up one’s life so that they can move on. Coaches can motivate someone so that they can achieve their full potential. Coaches can even help someone suffering from ADD focus and be more productive. There are even coaches who specialize in helping people transition from working to retirement. I bet you didn’t know there were so many aspects to a life coach’s job!
Do you find that people are drawn to you because they think you’re a good listener? Or that you give good advice? Are you understanding and empathetic with people’s problems? If you’re all these and more, you should consider becoming a life coach.
You don’t have to be a college graduate or have years of job experience in a certain field. You can be young or old, man or woman to become a life coach. Make sure you get the training you need and be a certified coach so that your clients will have confidence in your skills. You need to reassure them that they’ve made the right choice.
