Certainly, repeated phone calls, sudden visits, keeping track records of the borrowers have turned into a punishable matter. So, while collecting debt amount, it is very important for the collectors to keep in mind what to do and what to avoid!! Otherwise, punishments become obvious.

So here is a list of do’s and don’ts for the debt collectors for collecting debts

Preparation

It is very important for you to prepare yourself beforehand while going for debt collection. What I meant to say with preparation is, keep all the details of the bonds that you and the debtors have signed together and also know the exact amount which is to be borrowed. Then, proceed for collection. It will save you from the charges of the debtors.

Approach

How you approach the debtor while collecting debt is another important matter to be kept on mind!! Avoid striking a conversation that has no purpose to the matter; rather come to the point straight. It means, when you are going for debt collection, talk to your debtors only about the matter, and don’t give him a chance to emotionally approach you with his stories.

Contact person

Make sure that you are meeting with the same person who has borrowed the loan amount and not involving any third party into the matter. Involving others into the matter can turn the situation against you.

Have power over

Have a controlled conversation with the debtor at the time of debt collection. Be a gentle man. Try to resolve the matter by keeping patience in you. Don’t get agitated immediately, when the debtor refuse to repay the debts. As a responsible citizen, contact the law firms to deal the matter. Any offensive step from you can even drag you behind the bars.

Time

You need to provide the debtor at least 90 days of time for debt collection. If he still fails, don’t delay to proceed legally.

As you have lent the debt amounts, you have the full right to get it back. So, wear your boots and start the debt collection following the above mentioned points.
