Not too long ago, I bought a new car. I needed financeing to be able to afford the car, so I needed insurance. I wanted the cheapest insurance I could get whilst still keeping the quality of a good insurance company. I called all my friends and family to find out who they insured with and what they were paying each month. I also asked how the service was from each company and how they paid claims. I only got three companies to contact out of this process, but it was a start. My next step was to go searching on the internet. I found some insurance companies and started filling out the forms, then I remembered an advert I had seen on television. There are websites around that will do the legwork for you. I hunted down a few of these sites (I know, I really wanted a lot of different quotes) and filled in my details. Shortly, a few of them came back to me with a dozen quotes all together. Great!

I had noticed throughout all of this that a lot of insurance companies offered lower rates to people with alarm systems and tracking devices and such like installed in their cars. I went back to those portal sites and re-entered my details to include some of these safety measures. The difference that made surprised me no end. I did make sure that the alarm and anti-hijacking systems I had said I had were properly installed before I actually took out insurance of course, to do otherwise would have been fraud! Installing those systems may have cost me a little, but they sure made a huge difference to my premiums.

Other things I noticed counted quite a bit in my favour were things like my deriving experience and age as well as the fact that I keep my car in a locked garage at night and have a clean driving record. I guess this all makes me a low insurance risk.

After getting together all my quotes (I now had about fifteen), I started comparing them. This is honestly the most boring and confusing thing I have ever had to do. It took forever. I suppose I could have made do with five or so, but I am a bit pedantic about things like this. Eventually I settled on a cheap car insurance quote and contacted the company who provided the quote.

They already had the quote on their system and just had to label it as accepted and give authorisation for the debit order to go off each month. The whole process was fairly quick and easy.
