Precisely What Is Accident Insurance?

Accident insurance can be explained as insurance taken out to protect an individual in the case of injuries due to an accident. There are different kinds of such insurance policies obtainable, but 9 out of 10 times accident insurance plans will not pay for injuries caused by carelessness or acts of God or natural disasters.

Most respected insurance companies or skilled brokers should be able to assist you with acquiring accident insurance. This could be by means of an add-on to an existing policy, or as a separate policy and is typically available at reasonably competitive rates.

As with all insurance plans, taking out accident insurance can be seen as a bit of a wager. The consumer takes out insurance with the expectation that he/she will never be in an accident and the insurance company will write the policy with the hope that they’ll never need to pay out. Then why, if neither the insurance provider nor the insured wants to utilize the policy, is accident insurance even necessary?

The answer is easy: A mishap can happen anytime and not everyone may have funds available to pay for medical treatment, a hospital stay or for any other bills associated with the injuries suffered in the accident. This is especially true if individuals don’t have health insurance or medical aids – where will they suddenly find a lump sum of money to cover these unforeseen costs?

Remember that not all accident policies will give you the same cover. Several policies will only pay the insured to cover medical expenses following an accident. Other policies may also include discomfort and suffering brought upon from the accident and the injuries sustained. Other policies might pay out a monthly amount to take care of an insured that’ve been permanently disabled due to an accident and therefore won’t be able to work and make a living again. Other policies will pay out a beneficiary in the eventuality of the death of the insured. Be sure you have a good idea of your insurance requirements so that you can choose the best available policy to satisfy your needs.

Be sure to enquire about the insurance company’s reputation to paying out claims before you commit to a certain insurance provider. Some companies are well known for dragging their feet when having to pay a claim, searching for excuse after excuse and inspecting every single detail of the accident over and over again. Following an accident, you will usually need immediate care; therefore an organization with a bad pay-out track record is probably not the best route to follow.

Accident insurance may also be taken out to protect those who participate in extreme sports. Anything from horseriding to scuba diving and white water rafting can make a person a high risk for an insurance company, so make 100% certain that your accident insurance policy will cover the cost of an ambulance, a hospital stay, therapy and other treatment following an accident. These types of policies are often slightly more costly than a normal accident insurance policy, but as these types of sports can cause significant injuries, it is totally comprehensible!

Do not take a gamble with your body – ensure that you will be sufficiently covered in the event of an accident!
