Student Debt – Beware of the Consequences
With the escalating cost of education, student debt is rising like never before. It has become almost a ritual to take a loan to study and then after getting some employment, repay it. Those were the rosy times but with the slowdown in the economy are really making life of the students, horrible. It has become very much necessary for the students to think twice before going on a student loan. Though there has been an extended period of repayment in the federal loans but private loans are also making to appear with full confidence. The student finds it difficult to go for the loan, since he will be unable to repay it.
A student goes into debt, when he fails to pay for the loan amount and even after repeated reminders. Various sorts of problems start in order to repay back the money. His credit ratings take a beating and this makes him more vulnerable and he will face the consequence of wage garnishment, where his salary will be cut to an extent. If he has gone on requesting to get back something on taxes. Then he will, hardly get back on their returns. The extra on the taxes front will be taken on behalf of the student debt. There will be no return of you your extra tax, which the authorities have withdrawn from your account.
This holds some points, if you have taken any loan from any federal agency. Though, the federal agencies give an extra time period of about twenty five years, in order to pay back their student debt. Since prolong recession will not be for anyone’s favor and it will do more harm than good. In certain cases a overqualified student fails to get employment, since the job they are offered is very much low paying and also offers very meager amounts as salary. It will be impossible for those students to sustain themselves, leave alone paying off their debt or the interest rate for servicing the debt. The administration should invest in the economy to keep it moving and save the poor students.
