Maulik Mehta (Micky), MaShCube | Financial Services Review | Top Cross-Border CPA FirmMaulik Mehta (Micky), founder and CEO
Maulik Mehta had dreamed of working in the U.S. from a young age. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in India and pursuing opportunities with Big Four firms, he finally moved to the U.S. in 2016 before eventually relocating to Canada. This international journey exposed him to the tax complexities faced by Canadians doing business in the U.S. and employees moving between countries.

Recognizing the need for specialized cross-border tax expertise, Mehta founded MaShCube to help businesses and individuals navigate these complexities through tailored tax planning and structuring strategies. With 18 years of professional experience across the U.S., India, and Canada, he brings a practical understanding of different tax systems to the firm’s approach, which considers each client’s personal and business circumstances across jurisdictions.

“We always recommend solutions that are truly suited to the tax circumstances at hand rather than relying on a predetermined approach,” says Mehta (Micky), founder and CEO.

MaShCube starts by assessing the facts before determining what applies. The firm considers migration, future plans, family background, and the client's tax position before reviewing relevant documents. The team then evaluates the U.S. and Canadian tax positions and reviews the applicable treaty clauses to determine the appropriate tax planning or structuring approach. This expertise also leads local CPAs to refer clients to MaShCube when a case requires cross-border knowledge.

The firm works with more than 1,000 individual and corporate tax clients, including over 200 employees from Microsoft, Amazon, and Qualcomm. These cases can involve double taxation on restricted stock units and stock options due to migration. When companies withhold taxes in the U.S., and the same income appears on employees' W-2 and T4 forms, the team examines the underlying facts and applicable treaty provisions rather than automatically applying a conventional foreign tax credit. In some cases, its research into the treaty has identified adjustments that can result in higher refunds.

A similar principle reshaped the finances of an e-commerce client operating in both countries. The client was a Canadian tax resident but had maintained a U.S. corporation, resulting in a higher tax burden. After reviewing the structure, MaShCube helped restructure the arrangement based on the U.S.-Canada tax treaty, significantly reducing the client's overall tax burden.

Handling such cases that require this level of analysis also shapes how the firm develops its people. The management team includes Shweta Mestry, Mehta’s wife and co-founder, and Aijaz Deshmukh, manager. The name MaShCube combines 'Ma' from Maulik and 'Sh' from Shweta, while 'Cube' represents its three-country tax expertise across the U.S., Canada, and India. The firm has more than 30 employees across these countries.

MaShCube fosters a culture where employees are encouraged to keep questioning, understand why a particular tax treatment applies, and continue learning as part of a family-like team. Mehta believes that once employees stop asking questions, they stop learning and follow a process. Senior team members are therefore expected to help colleagues take the next step in their understanding, particularly in an area as complex as cross-border tax.

The same emphasis on knowledge and support extends to the firm's plans beyond its existing team. It is developing a franchise model for tax professionals who want to start their own practice without building the entire infrastructure themselves. MaShCube will provide training, technology, centralized back-office support, and quality controls, alongside plans to introduce automation and an AI-based CRM.

As the firm expands, it continues to build on the cross-border expertise that has shaped its approach, helping clients navigate complex tax matters across jurisdictions. Recognized as a Top Cross-Border CPA Firm 2026, MaShCube applies that expertise to tailored tax planning and structuring solutions for individuals and businesses operating across borders.
